Florida wasp or hornet's nest?

On a recent outing we spotted this nest just off one of our trails. Although we gave it a wide berth, we thought this photo might bring attention to a Florida hiking hazard for you to avoid. Wasp or hornet? Who cares! Just leave it alone!

Bike Florida - Lake Woodruff National Wildlife Refuge

Okay, so the sign says "Foot Traffic only." Well that's not quite right, and the sign will be changed soon. The impound dikes of Lake Woodruff National Wildlife refuge are open to off-road bikers. You can cover much more ground, and see much more wildlife. Here is a photo, taken by Arnette Sherman, of her husband Ed and me, biking the dikes this past Thursday. The refuge is open to bikers; come and enjoy it! It is one of 25 Central Florida biking trails featured in our book on biking in Central Florida. Eagle Nest - New Smyrna Beach

This photo is not impressive, but the actual view is great. This is today's photo of the actual eagle's nest in New Smyrna Beach with two eagles in attendance. It is just off off U.S. Route 1, across from Pappa's restaurant. It is at the corner of Turnbull Bay Road and Marcel Street.

If you like this kind of wildlife viewing, check out our Central Florida wildlife viewing book at:

New Smyrna Bobcat

This is a great photo taken by Dave Baker, a winter resident of New Smyrna Beach. He is an excellent wildlife photographer who specializes in birds. But I asked him last week if he had any BOBCAT photos. He said, "No," and then he got a lead on this one. Thank you Dave!, is all I can say. Both Dave and I hope you enjoy this great, copyrighted photo.
